The Keegan School of Speech and Drama has seen a generation of young adults through its programmes. In fact, it is the longest running speech and drama school in Letterkenny and the surrounding area. It aims to enrich each student by providing them with lifelong skills they can take beyond the classroom.
The school develops clear, articulated speech as well as good communication skills with an emphasis on good projection and clarity of speech. It does this using a child-friendly and relaxed approach.
All students, whether retiring or extrovert, work towards a common goal, i.e. to express themselves with self-assurance so they can get the best from life.
The syllabus includes poetry, prose reading, solo drama, and sight reading. Each student receives individual attention while attending the classes.
Margot Keegan, teacher/founder of The Keegan School of Speech and Drama, believes speech and drama is "extremely beneficial to school work and general personal development as students are introduced to an array of writers of high literary merit".
Speech and drama examinations are held annually with additional public speaking exams also available to second level students. Exams are optional, but students are encouraged to participate as they will enhance their CV in later years.
A school feis weekend is also organised annually. This is an opportunity for parents to see the work carried out in class.
