Donegal Railway Heritage Centre is delighted to announce that Leghowney County Market is coming to the Museum this summer, on Saturday 13th July, as part of the 60th Anniversary celebrations. Its 60 year this year since the Railway Station and majority of the railway lines closed in 1959.
Leghowney Country Market is one of Donegal’s most famous Country Markets and over the years has grown a reputation in offering local, quality produce. Market produce includes a variety of local hand crafts like hand knitted toys and baby clothes, crochet hats, hand-made cards, hand painted stones and plant arrangements, as well as home baking, scones, breads, cakes, cupcakes, preserves, local honey, Fresh Seasonal Veg and fruit, free range eggs, etc.
A representative from the Country Market stated: “We are delighted to be coming to the Railway Museum this summer, particularly in this anniversary year. It will be a great excuse for local people to visit the museum which is only a 2 minute walk from the town centre, and check out some local produce, and also learn about the Donegal Railways.
We are also looking for more people to get involved with our Country Market, so if you bake or make something, please get in touch though our website”
Niall McCaughan, Manager of Donegal Railway stated: “We are very excited about Leghowney Country Market coming to the town and to our museum, particularly over the holiday weekend. It will be an opportunity for local people to showcase the great local produce, particularly in a historic location where 100 years ago that very produce might have been sent on its way across Ireland and further afield!”
The market will take place on Saturday 13th July, 10am-3pm, and will also include activities for children on the day. Refreshments will also be available.
