For many years the Letterkeny International Folk Festival was a major event in Donegal.

However, after many successful years it waned in the 1990s and eventually ceased.

On Tuesday, the Mayor of the Letterkenny Muncipal District Council, Jimmy Kavanagh, will table a motion calling on the local authority "to look at appropriate ways of commemorating the50th Anniversay of the first Letterkenny Folk Festival in 2019."

Whether this leads to any calls for a revival of the festival remains to be seen.

This footage below will certainly evoke some memories. It was shot by Alan Speer, narrated by Sally Blake.  Video supplied by Tony Duffy to You Tube.
