Donegal will be represented on the last Winning Streak  of the 28th series of the National Lottery and RTÉ game show, the second longest running game show in Europe.

Paul Friel from Letterkenny is appearing on tonight’s show, which is airing at the slightly earlier than usual time of 7.00pm, on RTÉ One.

Paul and the four other contestants will have the opportunity to win prizes of cash, cars and holidays. The Donegal man might even get the chance to spin the iconic Winning Streak Grand Prize Wheel and win up to €500,000.

In this series of Winning Streak, more than 130 people from all over Ireland have shared more than €4.8 million.

Since it first aired on September 21, 1990, Winning Streak, which celebrated its landmark 1,000th show last February, has featured a total of 5,970 players who have shared more than €170 million in prizes between them.

RTÉ’s dynamic duo of Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy have been presenting the show together for five years and will, once again, guide this week’s players through the game.

Speaking ahead of tonight's  show Sinead Kennedy said: “It's nice to see the evenings get brighter and warmer but at the same time you feel a little sad that Winning Streak will be off air for the summer months. However, we are excited for our last show and are already looking forward to coming back on air on Saturday 22nd September.”

Marty Whelan said: “It’s been a really eventful season on Winning Streak. The highlight has to be celebrating our 1,000th show and for a weekly show, reaching that many programmes is no mean feat.

“What makes Winning Streak unique is the stories of the five players each week which viewers can relate to and to see them winning life-changing sums of money is just amazing.”
National Lottery CEO, Dermot Griffin, said: “Winning Streak is unique and there is nothing else like it around the world. The show is a very important and treasured part of the National Lottery family. Part of its success is the fact it reaches into every community in Ireland.

"Over the years we have had players from every county who bring with them supporters to RTE every week to celebrate. This inclusiveness is part of the success of the show and why it has sustained over so many years."
