Eleven primary school children had a lucky escape this morning when a tree fell on their school bus.

The incident happened just before 9.00 am in the Lisnennan area of Letterkenny.

Their bus was heading up a steep hill when the tree began to fall.

The alert driver took evasive action and managed to halt the bus.

The front of the bus made contact with the tree – but it could have been far more serious.

Had he not noticed the tree falling tree it could well have come down on the roof of the bus.

None of the children were injured and they were all able to alight safely.
