A team of recent LYIT graduates were overjoyed when they won the national final of the CIMA Global Business Challenge which was held in the IT Tallaght last Friday.

The LYIT team was made up of Darragh Boyel, Emmet Paterson, Brid Boyce and Stephen McGlynn, all of who have just recently graduated from their Honours Accounting Degree in the LYIT.

They managed to see off some tough competition fro UCC, UCD, UU and the IoTs (Institutes of Technology) to claim the prize as their own. The team will now follow in the footsteps of the 2009 LYIT team who won the national final and represented Ireland in Singapore, they will represent Ireland in the Global Final which will be held in Mumbai, India in early August where they will be facing national winners from 25 other countries.

Team mentor Paul O’Sullivan has previously coached the LYIT team to reach 6 national finals, finish runner-up 4 times and win the competition outright twice.

At the awards ceremony the Global Business Challenge Chairman paid Paul and the team a fitting compliment by stating that each year LYIT is the team everyone wants to avoid in the national heats!
