A major operation coordinated by Malin Head Coast Guard has ended with the successful rescue of 15 swimmers.
The group got into difficulty while swimming off Magheroarty Pier today (Tuesday).
10 of the swimmers were airlifted to Letterkenny University Hospital.
The alarm was raised by members of the public who saw the swimmers get into difficulty.
Malin Head Coast Guard coordinated the rescue operation which involved the R118 helicopter, the Tory ferry Queen of Aran and Mulroy Coast Guard Unit.
A Coast Guard spokesperson thanked the members of the public who speedily alerted the Coast Guard Rescue services.
The spokesperson also said: "The Helicopter crew deserve special commendation for their efficient response to a difficult challenge as do staff in Malin Head for coordinating the operation with a successful outcome."
