A man was airlifted to Letterkenny General Hospital in what has been described as a “life or death” situation.

The man, in his sixties, was reportedly involved in a work premises  accident in Portnoo.

The Irish Coastguard Helicopter based in Sligo rushed to the south-west Donegal village and air-lifted him to Letterkenny General Hospital.

The Health and Safety Authority has been alerted as it was a workplace accident and will carry out an investigation.
