Man with Donegal address remanded in custody in connection with Roscommon eviction incident

A man with a Donegal address appeared in court on Saturday evening charged with violent disorder during an eviction, following a High Court order, at a house near Strokestown in Co Roscommon before Christmas.
According to the Irish Times, PJ Sweeney (54) with an address at High Cairn  Ramelton, Co Donegal, was arrested at Castlerea Garda Station on Saturday and charged with violent disorder at Falsk, Strokestown, on Sunday, December 16th, 2018.He appeared before Juste Deidre Gearty at a special sitting of Roscommon District Court.

Evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given by Sgt. Maura McGarry.

Detective Inspector Pat Finlay applied to the court for Mr Sweeney to be remanded in custody.

Bail was sought, but gardaí objected.

Judge Gearty refused the application for bail and remanded Mr Sweeney in custody to appear at a sitting of the District Court in Castlerea on Friday, January 18th.
