Donegal Fianna Fáil TD Charlie McConalogue has welcomed the announcement that a Mica redress scheme is to be put in place to help affected homeowners remediate their homes.

Deputy McConalogue said the announcement was an “important step forward” in the campaign and would bring some relief from the immense stress and anxiety that had been caused to families right across our county.

He added: “While I welcome the announcement that a redress scheme is to be put in place for homeowners affected by MICA, it is essential that the government follows through on the commitment. This remediation must begin early in 2019.

“I would like to pay tribute to the hard work of the MICA Action Group which has been pushing this issue so strongly on behalf of homeowners. Fianna Fáil has consistently engaged with the group and has brought the issue to the floor of the Dáil on numerous occasions. We included it as an essential element of our Budget negotiations with Fine Gael and are pleased that a redress scheme has now been secured for those affected.

“I want to see progress on this scheme as soon as possible. Homeowners have been waiting too long for assistance – the redress scheme needs to be rolled out early in 2019.

Deputy McConalogue added: “I will be continuing to work with the Mica Action Group, the local Fianna Fáil team and all political parties to ensure that this scheme begins as soon as possible so that the nightmare experienced by homeowners affected by MICA can be brought to an end.”
