McGettigan’s Abu Dhabi has won the award for Best International Irish Pub Food at the Irish Pubs Global Awards, which took place in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin.

The awards were held as part of part of the fifth annual Irish Pubs Global Federation Gathering event which runs from September 26th until the 28th. The awards honour business excellence in the Irish pub industry at home and abroad.

McGettigan’s Executive chef Derek Flynn commented on the win, saying “It’s the love and the care that we put into our dishes that make our food so special and loved. McGettigan’s is committed to using only the finest quality ingredients and we always try to source the majority of our fruit and vegetables locally.

We also believe in sourcing all our meat and fish from local suppliers. We choose our products carefully and source some of our products from Ireland including beef, chicken, seafood, dairy and breads to keep it authentic.”

“The Irish Pub continues to enjoy iconic status around the world and this conference and the awards are testament to this” said Enda O’Coineen, Founder and President of the Irish Pubs Global Federation.

“We’re delighted to welcome so many pub owners from abroad who understand the value and special place that the Irish pub continues to hold. Congratulations to all those shortlisted and the winners who took home their awards tonight.”

McGettigan's background

McGettigan’s roots go back to 1964, when founder Jim McGettigan opened his first pub on Queen Street, Dublin. A family business from the start, the idea to establish a chain of Irish pubs under the family name, originated through the vision of Jim’s son, Dennis McGettigan. The first McGettigan’s Irish pub opened its doors in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Dubai in November 2010.

With the inaugural venue a success, the brand expanded further, with new bars opening across the UK and Ireland, the Middle East,

Asia and USA. Six years later and there are a total of 13 McGettigan’s pubs worldwide, with plans for three more venues currently in the works. 2016 has been an impressive year for the McGettigan Group, who recently added a new dining and nightlife concept, Warehouse Bar + Kitchen ((Letterkenny) to their ever-growing portfolio.
