Forecasters at Met Eireann are warning of high winds for Donegal for the rest of today.

An official Status Yellow warning has been issued and it covers the county for a 21-hour period through to 6am tomorrow.

Violent gusts of up to 110km/h have been predicted.

Met Eireann states: “South to southeast winds will reach mean speeds between 50km/h and 65km/h, with gusts between 80 and 110km/h.

“Winds strongest along Atlantic coastal counties at first but the strong winds will extend countrywide through the course of the Monday afternoon and evening.”

A rain alert has also been issued for other parts of the country.

Donegal’s weather is due to pick up later in the week with forecasts indicating that it will hit the high teens by Thursday.

Met Eireann is forecasting that midweek will be warm and mainly dry with sunny spells with highest temperatures of 14C to 17C.
