Independent TD Thomas Pringle has welcomed the news that Killybegs Harbour is to receive €8m in funding from the Department of Agriculture.
He said: “I welcome the announcement as it recognises the huge potential that Killybegs Harbour has for the future of fisheries and food processing in Donegal and the rest of the country.
"The money will serve to enhance the existing facilities facilitating even greater capacity to what is already there.
“Money invested into Killybegs Harbour is also an investment in the local town and local community. As capacity increases in the Harbour so will the local economy which can only be good news for local businesses and employment.
“It will also help in developing the tourism sector bringing in greater numbers to the local area.
“I would call on the Minister to ensure that funding is provided for in a timely manner and that progress will continue without delay.
"I also hope that more initiatives will come in the future to help develop the fisheries sector further in Donegal."
