The first meeting of the new Municipal District of Donegal has taken place this afternoon in the Peter Kennedy Chamber of Donegal Public Service Centre.
The Donegal Municipal District is made up of three Independents including the new Cathaoirleach of Donegal Co. Council, John Campbell from Mountcharles alongside two new councillors Tom Conaghan, Donegal Town and Niamh Kennedy, Killybegs. Another newcomer Sinn Fein’s Noel Jordan from Mountcharles is joined outgoing members, Bundoran's Fianna Fail veteran Sean McEniff and Fine Gael’s Barry O’Neill, Ballyshannon.
Cllr O’Neill was elected as Cathaoirleach, having been proposed by Cllr Campbell and seconded by Cllr Kennedy. The position of Leas Cathaoirleach went to Cllr Jordan, who was proposed by Cllr Campbell and seconded by Cllr McEniff.
Other positions filled this afternoon include two members on Coiste na Gaeilge and one on the Donegal Heritage Forum; two seats on the Erne Enterprise Development Company Ltd; two seats on the management company of Ballyshannon Leisure Centre; four seats on the board of Bundoran’s Water World Ltd; two seats on the Interreg IVA Gobbins/Sliabh Liag Project Board and two members on the Pettigo Tullyhommon Project Board;
The new councillors for the Glenties Municipal District - Fianna Fail’s Seamus Ó Domhnaill, Falcarragh and Enda Bonner from Dungloe; Sinn Fein’s Maire Therese Gallagher, Dungloe and Gweedore’s John Sheamais Ó Fearraigh; Fine Gael’s Terence Slowey, Ardara and Independent Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig from Annagry - will meet this coming Monday, June 16 at 11am at the Public Service Centre in Dungloe.
On the agenda there will be two positions to fill on Coiste na Gaeilge and one on the Donegal Heritage Forum.
