Most Rev Alan McGuckian SJ, Bishop of Raphoe has appointed Very Rev James Sweeney to the role of parish priest of Frosses in the Parish of Inver.

Fr Sweeney is currently the parish priest in the neighbouring parish of Killaghtee which covers Dunkineely and Bruckless. He is also well known across south Donegal for his work in a number of areas.

Fr Sweeney will be replaced by Rev Rory Brady CC who is a curate in Milford and Kerrykeel. This will most certainly be a welcome move for Fr Brady who is himself a native of the Inver area.

These appointments will take effect from January 19.

Rev Angelo Lafferty SMA on loan from the Society of African Missions will then take up the role of curate left vacant by Fr Brady. His appointment will take effect from February 2.

There was huge sadness in the Parish of Inver and indeed across Donegal when Fr Gallagher died suddenly last October. The gregarious priest touched many lives and was loved by people of all ages.

He was laid to rest in Ardaghey graveyard on Connie’s Hill. This was a site which he had been involved in purchasing during a previous posting in the parish. He had made it known that it was on this beautiful hillside overlooking Inver Bay that he wished to be buried.

In announcing the new clergy appointments this morning, Bishop McGuckian wished every blessing on the three priests.
