Channel 4’s plans to make a comedy series about the Irish famine are in hot water.
News of the series has prompted considerable reaction.
And now an Ulster clans group has set up a petition against it.
The Ulster Clans of Ireland wants people to sign up to its petition to stop Channel 4 from making a comedy series about the famine.
The clan says that “famine or genocide is no laughing matter, approximately one million Irish people die, and another two million were forced to emigrate.”
The petition is on the clan’s facebook page, “Ulster Clans of Ireland Petition C4 from filming a comedy on Irish Famine.”
Provisionally called Hunger, the script is still in development and might never be filmed.
Already over 30,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org.
