If last night's RTE/TG4 Exit poll proves to be correct, the scale of the collapse of the Fianna Fáil vote in the Midlands Northwest constituency will raise serious questions for the party.

Indeed, the poll suggests that the two FF candidates Brendan Smith and Anne Rabbitte polled just 9% between them.

Interestingly, Donegal's Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher polled 9.21% in the 2014 European Elections when he narrowly lost out on a seat.

The sorting and verifying of votes in Donegal is currently underway in the Aura Leisure Centre.

The votes will then be taken later today to Castlebar in Co. Mayo which is the count centre for the European Elections for the Ireland Midlands Northwest constituency.

The count begins tomorrow.
