Raphoe Gun Club recently held its Christmas Shoot with shooters from throughout Donegal and west Tyrone.

A spokesman said: "This now annual event saw one of the best day's shooting ever at Raphoe with massive scoring from start to finish.

"From the first line, shooting at 11.15, Tommy Cunningham made his intentions clear when he posted a possible 20/60.

"He went on to shoot a further 80 targets on the day, using only five second barrels. Tommy was to have plenty of top class company in the shoot-off.

"Jim Doherty, Bertie Coulter, Tommy “Turbo” Allen, Tommy Love and Shaun Gavigan all weighed in with 60s.

"With the floodlights on for the shoot-offs, Jim Doherty’s 20/59 was enough to win the Christmas Hamper."

The spokesman added: "The club also had other business to settle on the day.

"Six guns, who had recorded straights on the ground throughout 2017, went into action to find a winner for the prestigious Straights Winner 2017 title.

"Thomas Love, Tommy Allen, Jim Doherty emerged from the first shoot-off with 60s, so the three had to go again to find a winner.

"This time, Doherty bowed out, but Love and Allen were still tied. The two went head to head with Love taking the trophy.

"Love was not finished there as he partnered Jim Doherty on the day to take victory in the two-man flush.

"Love also collected the trophies for the Visitors DTL and Sporting Leagues, two further year-long competitions which the Raphoe Club host annually."
