Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty this morning published the Clár (programme) for this weekend’s Ard Fheis which takes place in the RDS on Friday evening and all day Saturday.
Teachta Doherty said this Ard Fheis promises to be a historic one where Martin McGuinness will be remembered and Gerry Adams will outline his own intentions during his Presidential Address on Saturday evening.
Speaking today Teachta Doherty said;
“This will be a historic gathering of the party. More than 3,000 party members are expected to attend over the weekend in what will be the biggest Ard Fheis that we have ever held.
“We will be concluding discussions on our ten year plan - Unity in our time.
“Health and housing will also be at the top of the agenda, alongside the Repeal of the 8th amendment, the demand for Special Status for the North in the EU to deal with the threat posed by Brexit and the ongoing political crisis in the North.
“We will also be advancing our preparations for the next General Election and it is my firm view that the health and housing crisis will only be fixed with Sinn Féin in government and there are enough people out there who want the crisis in health and housing resolved to see that happen.
“Two major documents will go before delegates at the Ard Fheis – ‘Tír gan teanga, Tír gan anam – Sinn Féin ar son na Gaeilge’ and ‘Tackling the scourge of sectarianism in Irish society’ as well as a new party Constitution and Rules which has been produced following six months of consultation and involves modernising the party to deal with the massive expansion in recent years and giving more say to party members.
“At the Ard Fheis we will remember Martin McGuinness and Gerry Adams will lay out his own intentions as part of his Presidential Address at 8.30pm on Saturday evening, which will also be streamed live on the party’s website, facebook and other social media platforms.”
