Work to alleivate the problems at Letterkenny General Hospital after flooding outside the new A&E department was carried out without planning permission, it has emerged.

Donegal Co. Council has allocated a member of staff to look into the planning files at the hospital and a report is due in April.

Councillors are demanding action.

Cllr. Dessie Shiels said: “The reality is that they (the HSE) never looked for planning permission, they did not deal with flooding on the first occasion, to my mind this is an admission that the HSE got it wrong.”

Meanwhile, Cllr. John O’Donnell launched a scathing attack on the works being taken to deal with any future flooding, and questioned the design.

Last year, members of the HSE Regional Health Forum were told there would be a report at the end of November on the flooding at Letterkenny General Hospital but it has yet to be issued.
