Hundreds of Donegal drivers may be affected by faults in Opel Zafira cars.

A series of vehicles have caught fire recently, including one incident where the dashboard of a car caught fire as a man was about to board a ferry from Passage West to Cobh, Co. Cork. The car was destroyed.

According to the Irish Times, Opel Ireland has confirmed eight incidents.

There are currently 8,000 Opel Zafira Model B cars on Irish roads.

The company has advised owners to contact local dealers if they notice anything unusual about the heating and ventilation system, such as a squeaking noise from the dashboard.
