Some heavy snow showers on Wednesday evening left some roads impassable in parts of Donegal.
Motorists were being advised to drive with caution.
Donegal Co. Council crews have been out gritting and using snowploughs.
Thursday, will be a cold, blustery day, with bright spells and heavy showers; some of hail and thunder.
Some of the showers will fall as sleet or snow over higher ground.
According to Met Eireann, highest temperatures will be just 3 to 5 degrees in moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty westerly winds.
A Status Orange Weather Warning was in place for Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan until 12 noon on Thursday.
However, this was subsequently downgraded to a yellow warning and it expires at 10.00 am this morning.
A big thaw set in during the early hours of this morning and there has been a considerable improvement in road conditions.
