With strong winds set to hit western seaboard counties including Donegal, Met Eireann has issued a weather warning.
Strong to gale force southwest winds will reach average speeds of up to 65km/h with gusts of up to 110km/h. However, the national forecaster has said that these speeds could well be exceeded during Thursday night as winds increase to strong gale force on the northwest coast. Winds will be accompanied by heavy rain and overnight temperatures of around 3˚C.
The status yellow warning applies to Donegal, Limerick, Kerry and all of Connaught. It takes effect from 10.00 pm on Thursday and will remain in place until 9.00 am on Friday.
A marine small craft warning has also been issued.
South to southwest winds will increase to force six or seven on Thursday on all Irish coasts.
