Independent candidate Thoiba Ahmed was well pleased with her showing in her first local elections in Donegal.

A native of Sudan, now living in Letterkenny, she attracted 525 first preference votes in the Letterkenny Electoral Area and remained in the contest until the end of the sixth count.

She was clearly heartened by the reaction that she got.

She was the first Muslim woman to stand in an election in the Letterkenny Electoral Area.

Her key issues included promoting social inclusion.
