Met Éireann have issued an Orange Thunderstorm warning for Co. Donegal this evening and tonight.

Thunderstorm activity is expected this evening, overnight and again during the day tomorrow.

Some intense thundery downpours are likely at times, with possibly some flash flooding in places.

West Ulster is one of the areas that will be most at risk this evening.

Other areas which are expected to be affected by thunderstorms include Munster, Leinster, Connacht, Monaghan and Cavan.

Motorists are advised to take care if driving in wet conditions -

-It takes longer to stop a vehicle on wet roads so slow down and allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front.

-Take special care when driving behind goods vehicles as they generate a considerable amount of spray which reduces your visibility

-Allow extra space between you and vulnerable road users such as cyclists and motorcyclists

-Drive with dipped headlights at all times

-Be aware of the danger of aquaplaning especially on roads with 100 km/h and 120 km/h roads.

-Check tyres and consider replacing them if the thread depth is below 3mm.

Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to wear reflective clothing and to take care.
