A senior Conservative politician's comments about post Brexit border crossings between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland involving "inspections, just like during The Troubles" have drawn considerable criticism.
Indeed, the Republic's Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Conveney has reacted strongly to the comments made by Tory euroskeptic Jacob Rees- Mogg.
Coveney tweeted: "It’s hard to believe that a senior politician is so ill informed about Ireland + the politics of the
#Brexit Irish border issue that he could make comments like these. We have left “the troubles” behind us, through the sincere efforts of many, + we intend on keeping it that way."
This is what Mr. Rees-Moggs said.
