Tributes have been paid to a Donegal firefighter who has had his 40 years of committed service to the Donegal Fire Service recognised at a special ceremony.

Buncrana Fire Chief James McKenna was today presented with a 40 year service medal by President Michael D Higgins at a ceremony held in the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin.

James joined the fire service at the age of 18 and has been congratulated on his 40 years of loyal service.

He is among a number of firefighters from Donegal who received long service medals at the ceremony.
