A first anniversary Mass tonight will remember the five family members who drowned in Buncrana last year.
The Mass will be offered in the Holy Family Church in Ballymagroarty at 7.15pm this evening.
Sean McGrotty, his sons Mark (12) and Evan (8), the boys’ grandmother Ruth Daniels and her teenage daughter Jodie-Lee, drowned in Lough Swilly when the vehicle they were in slid off the pier of the seaside town in March.
The only survivor was Sean’s four-month-old baby Ríoghnach.
The Mass takes place ahead of a special memorial walk set to take place this FRiday, March 24th.
The walk will set off from Sainsbury's at 6pm before making its way across the Peace Bridge, through St Columb’s Park and ending up at Ebrington Square.
Money raised through the walk will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy UK.
At a young age Evan was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and since last year’s tragedy his mother Louise has helped to raise money in his memory for Muscular Dystrophy UK.
A spokesperson for the family said: "Louise, The Daniels and The McGrotty family are deeply grateful for the prayers and support over the last year. As the Anniversary of the terrible tragedy approaches they would welcome space for privacy at this time.
"A Memorial Walk in memory of all 5 members of the family will take place on Friday 24th March 2017, it will begin at 6pm at Sainsbury's and will proceed to Ebrington Square.
"Registration for the walk will take place at Sainbury's Cafe on the day and a Registration Fee of £2.50 can be paid.
"All proceeds will go to the Evan McGrotty Research Fund for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy."
