Aontú's Mary T. Sweeney narrowly missed out on taking a seat in the Lettekenny Electoral Area.

She polled well and was in the hunt right until the ninth and final count when four people were elected, three without reaching the quota.

The party, founded by former Sinn Féin TD, Peadar Tobin, is a pro-life, conservative party that advocates unity and challenging the establishment on many issues, including economic justice.

While disappointed not to have taken a seat, she said she was proud of what the party has already achieved, and believes it can be a force going forward.
