Many Donegal farmers are facing a fodder shortage at present.

And links have been made with the situation that existed in 1986.

Indeed, a video made at that time gives an interesting insight to what happened then.

Newtowncunningham based Lee McDaid posted the video on social media this week. and it got a big response.

The video shows theArmy delivering cattle fodder to farmers in 1986.

The report shows an army lorry loaded with hay driving through various towns on its way to Donegal.

It features farmers in Ballyshannon awaiting fodder delivery. Hay is unloaded onto trailers.

There is also an interview with Adrian Leddy, who was the IFA Co. Development Officer in Donegal at time,  on the response of farmers in the south to the Donegal plight.

The footage is colour adjusted, the mono sound fixed and film converted to 16:9 aspect ratio.
