Independent Cllr. John O'Donnell has confirmed that he is set to contest the next general election.
He was elected to Donegal Co. Council in last May's local election where he stood in the Letterkenny Electoral Area.
He now wants to run for the Dáil and believes that he can provide a strong independent voice.
He also told Donegal Now that it had always been his plan to run for the Dáil and this was a matter discusses with his Director of Elections last year.
He will run in the new five seat Donegal consituency.
A native of Kilmacrennan, he is the son of the late Eddie O'Donnell, a former chairman of Donegal Co. Council.
