Cllr. Liam Blaney has been bitterly critical of the Fianna Fáil hierarchy for its handling of the European Elections in the Midlands Northwest constituency.

The party's vote - in what was a real heartland for it - collapsed.

His brother Niall Blaney was at one stage being tipped as a candidate to run for the party in the constituency.

But a decision was made to run Brendan Smith and Anne Rabbitte.

Cllr. Blaney, who was elected once again to Donegal Co. Council, had some strong words to say as he commented on his own election, and the European elections at the count centre in Letterkenny.
