Gardaí at Milford are investigating a fatal house fire which occurred at Ballyboes, Creeslough, Donegal shortly after 1.00 a.m. this morning Tuesday 30th December, 2014.

The body of a female in her 70s, who lived alone, was recovered from the house, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been named locally as Josephine Higgs.

Three fire crews attended the scene with firemen from Letterkenny and Falcarragh tackling the fire which was finally extinguished shortly around 4.30 am.

Her body was removed to Letterkenny General Hospital. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified. A post mortem was due to take place during the day.

The scene was preserved pending a Garda technical examination.

Investigations are continuing.
