A video evoking the ordinary experiences of Irish emigrants abroad is going viral as people travel home this Christmas.
Aiming to raise awareness of next year's referendum on the right of Irish citizens abroad to vote in Irish presidential elections, the video reflects on emigrants' involvement in the Home to Vote movements in recent referendums in Ireland.

The emotional highs and lows - of being involved and connected and of not being able to travel back to Ireland for major events - are visually articulated by award winning director, Georgina Willis, alongside a spoken word piece by writer, Alan Flanagan. The video was produced for the London-based campaign group, Votes for Irish Citizens Abroad.
The Government is planning to holding the referendum on voting rights on May 24th 2019, alongside the local and European elections.
