Figures provided by the Irish Nurses' and Midwives' Organisation to show waiting lists for hospital beds have a recorded an 85 per cent spike in Letterkenny University Hospital.

Yesterday, there were seven patients waiting for a bed in LUH, but that figure is today (Wednesday) up to 13.

The figure was yesterday was one of the lowest recorded in LUH this year, according to INMO figures.

It claims there are 11 people waiting on trolleys in LUH today and two in wards.

The overall figure for the country is 390, with University Hospital Limerick's figure of 56 said to be the highest nationally.
