Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue (Fianna Fáil) has welcomed the announcement that Craigtown National School, outside Carndonagh, was to get its long-awaited playground.

Speaking to the Inish Times Deputy McConalogue said: “I welcome the announcement that Craigtown NS has been awarded €50,000 under the CLÁR Programme towards the development of a playground for its pupils.

“Craigtown NS has grown significantly in recent years and unfortunately has never had a playground, which has been really difficult for the students.

“I have been working with the school over the past couple of years to source funding for a playground. I am delighted that the money has now been secured. This funding will hopefully see the playground planned and possibly completed over the summer months. It might be opened in time for the new academic year in September,” said Deputy McConalogue.

The CLÁR programme is a targeted investment programme which provides funding for small scale infrastructural projects in rural areas that have suffered the greatest levels of population decline.

The aim of CLÁR is to support the sustainable development of identified CLÁR areas by attracting people to live and work there.  The funding works in conjunction with local funding and on the basis of locally identified priorities.
