Former Finn Harps attacker Chris Breen has signed with Bonagee United and will bolster the Dry Arch Park side for the remainder of the Four Lanterns Ulster Senior League season.
Breen, now 32, had a couple of spells as a Harps player and has relocated home following a spell living in England.
Bonagee, who have yet to win a League game this season, face five-in-a-row champions Cockhill on Sunday and could be boosted by the inclusion of the Stranorlar man.
Bonagee suffered a heavy 6-0 loss in the corresponding fixture in October and Tony O’Carroll will be aiming to keep a tighter lid on things this weekend.
The addition of Breen certainly represents a big coup for Bonagee.
Breen hit nine goals for Harps in their First Division-winning campaign of 2004.
Breen left Harps in 2006 to go on loan to Shamrock Rovers before emigrating to Australia. In between two stints Down Under, Breen was back at Harps for the 2008 season.
He again return to Harps in 2010 and, following a spell at Limerick in 2011, had come back to his home club for the 2012 season, but didn’t feature.
His capture by Bonagee United boss Tony O’Carroll means he is reunited with Michael Funston, who broke through to Harps around the same time in that exciting ’04 season.
Cockhill recently lost striker Garbhan Friel who has moved to live in Dubai. Following a 2-0 loss to Fanad pre-Christmas, Gavin Cullen will be anxious to get back to winning ways again.
The entire USL programme was wiped out at the weekend because of the frost. Cockhill will be in FAI Intermediate Cup action against Home Farm on Sunday-week and will hope to get action this weekend.
Letterkenny Rovers have no game ahead of their trip to Cherry Orchard the following week.
There is a big game as Derry City Reserves host Fanad United in a battle of two teams looking to stay in the title race, while Finn Harps Reserves travel to Ramelton to take on Swilly Rovers.
