HAT-TRICK HERO HALE
Ronan Hale gave the Candystripes a dream start with a ninth minute goal and they got their second on 61 minutes through Ronan Curtis. City enjoyed a real purple patch with Arron McEneff next on target (64 minutes) followed by two more strikes for hero of the night Hale who completed his hat-trick as Derry won 5-0.
After the 6-1 drubbing by Shamrock Rovers, this was the perfect response on a great return to the famous venue that left that Brandywell faithful in full voice.
Champions Cork City beat Shamrock Rovers before the biggest crowd of the night - there was an attendance of 4,483 - and they are joint top of the table with Waterford United.
