Finn Harps were in action this evening in a proverbial six-pointer against UCD at the UCD Bowl in Dublin.

It finished: UCD  3, Finn Harps 0

Finn Harps slipped to the bottom of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division as they were deservedly beaten by a UCD side at the Belfield Bowl.

It was a first win of the campaign for the impressive students but the Donegal club, who face high flying Shamrock Rovers next, must be wondering where they are going to get their first win from.

The home side had four decent chances inside the opening 20 minutes. Kevin Coffery fired wide from a great position inside 90 seconds, and Ciaran Gallagher was forced into making a decent save from a Richie O’Farrell shot.

O’Farrell then showed some deft touches to control the ball and outfox Keith Cowan before seeing his shot clip the outside of the post, and captain Gary O’Neill fired just wide.

Harps mounted a number of counter-attacks with Strabane’s Caolan McAleer particularly sprightly while Raffaele Cretaro and McAleer had long range pots on goal.

Harry Ascroft again impressed for Harps in midfield in the first half.

But Harps were lucky to go in level at the interval as Jason McClelland, live-wire Coffey and Daniel Tobin all spurned chances for UCD.

O’Neill hit the crossbar for UCD before they deservedly took the lead on 61 minutes with Timmy Molloy stabbing the ball home from close range after Gallagher had done well initially to stop a Yoyo Mahdy strike.

And UCD made  it 2-0 on 70 minutes as O’Neill carved opened the visiting defence with a superb pass to find O’Farrell who slotted the ball past Gallagher.

The Collie O'Neill managed side got their third on 82 minutes as O’Farrell fired home after Harps failed to clear.

Harps struggled in the second half and UCD were good value for their win.
