Cavan’s Jonathan Pringle won the Galway Summers Stages with co-dirver Paul Sheridan as they had almost 42 seconds to spare in their Ford Escort MKII at the end of an event that attracted a big entry from Donegal crews.

Brendan Cumiskey and Ronan O’Kane were second in a Skoda Fabia with David Leonard and Niall Burns, in a Mitsubishi Lancer third a further 27 seconds adrift.

There were some notable drives from the Donegal entrants. Geoffrey Dolan and Connor Murphy won Class 13R in their Talbot Sunbeam and were sixth overall.

Brian Armstrong and Aodhan Gallagher won Class 12 in a Ford Escort and were 15th overall.

Meanwhile, there was the unusual sight of Donagh Kelly and Conor Foley in the historics section as they won that event in an Opel Ascona (pictured), evoking memories of times past as they went around in the colours of the famous car that brought success to Letterkenny’s James Cullen in the 1980s.

Kelly has had a few runs in this car and it makes quite a change from the Ford Focus WRC.

Elsewhere, online entries are now being taken for the Wexford Stages Rally and Clare Stages Rally in September.
