Grace Boyle, a Fine Gael candidate in the local elections is calling on Sports Minister Leo Varadkar, to give Donegal its “fair share” of Sports Capital Grants.

“Applications for the Sports Capital Grants for this year are now closed,” explained Ms. Grace Boyle, who is running in the Letterkenny electoral area. “I spoke with Minister Varadkar recently and learned that 97 sporting organisations in Donegal have applied for funding this year”.

“Last year, 24 organisations in the county benefited from grants – this was out of a fund of €30 million,” Ms. Boyle continued. “Given this year’s fund is €10 million greater, at €40 million, I am hoping that Donegal will receive proportionally more funding.

“Under the programme, funding allocated will help pitches to be drained, floodlights to be installed, sports halls to be improved and dressing rooms to be built. Thanks to these grants, people will have more opportunities than ever to get active and stay active in a wide range of sports. It will also have an additional positive impact on job creation in construction."
