Cill Chartha were crowned national Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta senior football champions for a sixth time after defeating Micheal Breathnach in Moycullen on Monday in Galway.
Ryan McHugh starred for the winners and was a worthy recipient of the ‘man of the match’ award. In the end, the Donegal champions had too much class for the local Connemara Gaeltacht side Micheal Breathnach’s and they eased to victory on a difference of 3-14 to 0-13.
Despite having to field without star attacker Patrick McBrearty Kilcar had qualified for the final following another convincing 2-15 to 1-7 victory over hosts Moycullen.
Naomh Columba also travelled to Galway for the Bank Holiday weekend event but unfortunately came up short in their Junior semi-final outing against London side Moin Dearg.
“It was a great and worthwhile weekend on a number of levels,” Cill Chartha manager John McNulty told the Post. “We went down with the focus of giving a good account of ourselves and, thankfully, it went our way.
