Donegal man Joseph Duffy will make his professional Ultimate Fighting Championship debut in Dallas’ American Airlines Centre on March 14th.

Duffy, who hails from Burtonport, was the last person to beat Mixed Martial Arts man-of-the-moment Conor McGregor who has taken the American scene by storm.

UFC officials have confirmed that Duffy will take on fellow lightweight Vagner Rocha at UFC 185.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is the largest mixed martial arts promotion company in the world featuring most of the top-ranked fighters in the sport.

Based in the United States, the UFC produces events worldwide. Many of the events are on pay-per-view television and the sport has seen a huge increase in popularity over the past few years.

Fox Sports has been closely associated with the sport and one contest attracted 5.7 million viewers.

Rather than a standard boxing ring, the UFC stages bouts in an eight-sided enclosure officially named "The Octagon".

Strategy and not just brute force is key with fighters using their hands and feet to hit opponents in contests of up to five rounds.

Duffy began his pro MMA career in 2008, picking up back-to-back submission wins over current UFC fighters McGregor and Norman Parke.

Having suffered his only MMA defeat, he then stepped out of the cage in favour of a pro boxing career.

“Irish Joe” as he has been dubbed returned to MMA in 2014, picking up two stoppage wins under the Cage Warriors banner.

Earlier this month he turned pro with UFC. He is currently based in north London.
