A Donegal man has just fulfilled his ambition of running 30 marathons before he turns 30-years-old.

When Paul Leonard, 29, crossed the finish line at the end of a marathon last Sunday, it marked the end of a quest that began four years ago after a glance at another runner's T-shirt.

When he ran a marathon in 2014, he saw a man with a T-shirt announcing that he had completed "50 under 50” and once the seed was sewn Paul was hooked on the idea.

“I thought, ‘This is something I could do,’'' he said. "I think my friends & family were a little bit surprised in the beginning, but they've all become very supportive and followed me through the whole thing."

A native of Letterkenny,  now living in Dublin, Paul crossed the finish line of his 30th marathon last Sunday  in Moville - as part of the Inishowen Quadrathon.

He will celebrate his 30th birthday this Saturday, August 25th.
