Donegal’s Philip Deignan may have missed out on being selected for the Tour De France again this year but it’s still been a busy year for the Team Sky rider.

Indeed, he will be one of six riders in Team Sky that takes part in this week’s 33rd staging to the Deutschland Tour.

The Letterkenny man, who is based in Monaco, will be one of 314 competitors who start in a race that dates back to 1911.

There are 22 teams in the event that begins this  Thursday, August 23rd in Bonn and which concludes on Sunday in Stuttgart.

Among the big names taking part will be Tom Dumoulin, Romain Bardet and Wout Poels.

Competing teams include Team Dimension Data, Quick-Step Floors, Movistar and AG2R La Mondiale.

Deignan began the year with a number of one day races in Spain.

His best performance of the year came in the Tour of Norway where he was 17th in the General Classification.

Deignan, who will be 34 next month, has a current UCI World Ranking of 1,860.

His most notable triumph was a stage win the Vuelta a Espana in 2009 where he was ninth overall.
