A Donegal man has won the inaugural Magee 1866 sponsored Wild Atlantic Marathon.
Conor McBride from Kerrykeel was first over the line after a fabulous run over a spectacular route that included quite a number of hills.
The race began in Killybegs at 7.00 am and and finished in Glencolumbcille.
He completed the challenging course in an unofficial time of three hours, six minutes and 34 seconds.
There was also a half marathon and a marathon relay event.
This was the scene at the finish.
"I am delighted," he said shortly after coming over the finish line.
And he added: "It makes you pride to win the very first one. The scenery was brilliant and it was very well organised."
In the region of 600 people took part.
John Gordon from Wexford was second while Clint Doherty from Castlefin was third.
Byrne quipped that if he does not see another hill for six months that he would be happy.
However, in typical runner's fashion, while he was tired after the event he is already thinking about signing up for the event again next year!
Doherty, when interviewed at the finish, commented that he was "buggered!"
Organiser Eunan Quinn hopes that the race will become an annual event.
The emphasis was very much on participation and being able to complete a race along such a scenic route.
