Sarah Collins of Finn Valley Athletic Club is the Big East champion after winning the title when she made her debut in the event at Villanova University, Philadelphia, U.S., yesterday evening.

And in doing so she set a new Irish U-23 ladies 10k record.

Competing in cold and unseasonally wet conditions Sarah achieved a time of 33.36,with a last lap of 75 seconds. She was through 5k in 16.50 for Providence College, Rhode Island, where she is currently undertaking a scholarship.

The Irish record had stood since 1988.
