Finn Harps   0    Longford Town  2

Champions Longford Town finished their First Division campaign on a high with a deserved win over Finn Harps at Finn Park.

Harps finish fifth in the table for the season.

The visitors missed a hat-trick of decent chances in the first-half before ace striker David O’Sullivan rose to meet a Rhys Gorman free with a glancing header that sailed past Shaun Patton on 30 minutes.

Leading scorer O’Sullivan could have doubled his tally just before the break but shot narrowly wide with Peter Hynes also well placed had he opted to pass.

Harps were awarded a 67th minute penalty when Pat McCann was impeded by goalkeeper Chris Bennion but the latter made amends as he saved Sean McCarron’s spot-kick.

McCarron then shot just wide as the home side searched for an equaliser.

But Longford wrapped up the points on 82 minutes with Mark Salmon scoring from close range.

Harps never stopped battling in an open and entertaining game but Longford always had the edge.
