Derry's U16's captured the Buncrana Cup for the first time in nine years thanks to a Darragh Wade goal and  an assured performance against holders Donegal on Saturday.

A resolute defensive display proved the key to the young Oakleafers' success, with the Donegal forwards frustrated by a well-organised squad who held their shape with diligence throughout.

A high, swirling wind made this a relatively low-scoring affair, but Darragh Wade's fisted goal early into the second-half was to prove the difference, and one that would see Derry's name etched on the cup once again after losing three finals since their last victory in 2010.

Though just three points separated the sides in the end, Derry were good value for the win, to build on their U15 success last season.
