Stage one of cycling’s 2014 Giro d’Italia will get underway in Belfast this evening. This is the first time in history that the event has come to Ireland and it will continue here until Sunday May 11th.

Philip Deignan will be riding for Team Sky in the event, originally from Letterkenny he has been described as an ‘intriguing addition’.

30 year-old Deignan had a stage win at the 2009 Vuelta a España where he finished ninth overall. He is particularly looking forward to racing on homeground, which makes it all the more ‘special’.
